Visual and Performing Arts
In the middle school years, grades (6-8), students have the opportunity to experience specific courses in the visual and performing arts.
Our course offerings focus upon:
- Visual Arts
- investigating a variety of media, techniques, and processes that are effective in communicating ideas visually
- demonstrating an understanding of the elements and principles of design through their own creations
- creating two and three dimensional media and using them to communicate ideas
- utilizing different approaches to make critical judgments about works of art
- recognizing, identifying, and discussing the multiple purposes for creating works of art
- Music
- developing music theory, composition and technical skills on instrument or voice
- increasing their knowledge of music history and styles of music
- utilizing ensemble experiences for participation and appreciation of music
- providing service to the school and community through public performances
- Theater Arts
- participating in improvisations to respond spontaneously and collaboratively in various acting situations
- focusing on improving the quality, diction, and volume of their voice
- developing an awareness of the collaborative nature of theater production and being introduced to the technical elements of directing, set building, lights, costumes, props, and sound
- reading plays, performing, and viewing a variety of dramatic presentations that explore historical and cultural themes
