8th Grade Science
Scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions and conducting careful investigations. As a basis for understanding the following concepts, students should develop their own questions and perform relevant investigations.
Motion and Forces:
- The velocity of an object is equal to the rate of change of its position.
- Forces that are unbalanced cause changes in velocity.
Matter:
- Elements have distinct properties and atomic structure.
- All matter is comprised of one or more elements.
- The organization of the Periodic Table is based on the properties and structure of the elements.
Reactions:
- Chemical reactions are processes in which atoms are rearranged into different combinations of molecules.
Astronomy:
- The structure and composition of the universe can be learned from the study of stars and galaxies, and their evolution.
Chemistry of Living Systems:
- The principles of chemistry underlie the functioning of all biological systems.
