Dear Carol Chase,

I have been informed of a very disturbing problem in the Cloverdale community. Instead of complaining about the problem I have come up with a simple but efficient solution . There is only one officer (police) on patrol in daylight hours so when citizens’ complain about teenagers being truant ,smoking , fighting and such, the police department says, "We don’t have the man power." My solution is to have at least two officers on patrol during daylight hours.

One reason why it will work is you will have one officer on patrol at all times while the other officer is patrolling but also on call for 911 emergencies.

Another reason this change would work and decrease the crime in Cloverdale is you can do what a lot of other cities and towns are doing. They have their normal officer patrolling, but the you can also have the "friendly cop" who is on patrol not looking for kids in trouble but just seeing who is hanging around town with their friends. Now not only will this make kids think cops aren’t so bad after all (which they aren’t), but also when kids are in trouble kids won’t be afraid to talk to the officers if they have any information about gang crimes and such.

Now I hope you will give this letter some thought and give it a try! I would like to introduce myself, if I may. I am a 13 year old boy named Konrad. I would really appreciate it if you write back and tell me your input.

Sincerely,

Konrad
